In a recent announcement, the E-commerce giant Amazon announced that it is planning to stop its ‘Freevee’ streaming service and fold the whole service into its more famous streaming platform, Amazon Prime Video. However, the shows will remain free for viewers who don’t have an Amazon Prime subscription.
People had anticipated this move, as earlier, Amazon started including advertisements on Prime Videos, which already has some free content, including movies and series. Similarly, the Freevee content will also be available on Prime Videos for free after watching a few ads.
Freevee was first started in 2019 by the name of IMDb TV, an offshoot of another famous website by Amazon by the same name. Freevee had many original shows, some of which were hits, including the social media sensation ‘Jury Duty,’ ‘Bosch: Legacy’ and ‘Judy Justice’. Amazon already has a massive media streaming platform, and the company finally decided to put all its content on one platform “to deliver a simpler viewing experience for customers,” an Amazon spokesperson said Wednesday.

Amazon Prime offers many different plans for its streaming service. The delivery service subscription, which costs around $14.99 per month, already includes an ad-supported streaming version. However, users can pay an extra $2.99 for the ad-free version. If users don’t want the delivery service subscription but want to stream their favorite shows, they just have to pay $8.99 monthly.
Both Freevee and Amazon Prime Video have massive viewership. Freevee has more than 65 million active monthly users, and Amazon Prime has monthly active users in excess of 180 million.
