Former President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, laid out his vision for America’s future if elected for the second time at the 2024 Bitcoin conference held in Nashville. He said that he would wholeheartedly embrace the crypto revolution and urged his supporters to make the US the crypto capital of the world.
In his keynote address, Trump said that he wants America to be the “bitcoin superpower” under his leadership. He also promised that he would remove the SEC’s chairman, Gary Gensler and implement a crypto advisory board. He said, “We will have regulations, but from now on, the rules will be written by people who love your industry, not hate your industry.”
Crypto has been one of the fastest-growing digital assets in the world. In the past, Trump was on the fence about adopting cryptocurrency, writing on his social media that cryptocurrency’s “value is highly volatile and based on thin air.” However, in recent years, he has been quite accepting of cryptocurrency, and earlier this year, in May, he started accepting donations in the form of cryptocurrency.
In his nearly 50-minute speech, Trump stressed the contrasting stances of the Biden administration and his administration regarding cryptocurrency regulation. He told the crowd that under the Biden Administration, the federal government was “blocking your way” and that he wanted bitcoins to be “mined, minted and made” in the US. He added, “They took it away from you. So, as I take steps to transform that vast wealth into a permanent national asset to benefit all Americans, today I repeat my promise to commute the sentence of Ross Ulbricht.”
Ulbricht is the creator of Silk Route, an illegal drug-selling website which was responsible for selling illegal drugs to many people and minors. He was sentenced to life in prison after a judge found at least six deaths caused by OD from drugs bought from his website.
Trump is the leading candidate in the 2024 US Elections and is poised to commence his second term in office in 2025.
